Myopia Management is Focus of New Podcast
Myopia is the leading cause of visual impairment in children worldwide, and its incidence and prevalence are on the rise, with estimates suggesting that more than half of the world’s population will be myopic by 2050.1
This trend presents both a clinical challenge and practice management opportunity for optometrists poised to best serve their pediatric patients and guide parents and caregivers.
Savvy optometrists are all ears when it comes to learning about the past, present, and future of this condition and ways to manage its progression. In response to collective interest for information about this growing epidemic, myopia pundit, David Kading, OD, has developed The Myopia Podcast, a series of discussions with experts on topics ranging from orthokeratology to Atropine, to soft contact lenses, and everything in between. The podcast, available on Dr. Kading’s Optometric Insights YouTube channel, is particularly valuable to optometrists who are interested in enhancing their myopia management skills and incorporating innovative treatments into their armamentaria in response to their patients’ developing needs.
Several of The Myopia Podcast presentations, including one with Randy Kojima, Director of Technical Affairs at Precision Technology, were made possible by an unrestricted educational contribution by Euclid Systems Corporation, Sterling, VA. In this episode, Mr. Kojima and Dr. Kading discuss ways to improve the accuracy of topographical maps for effective management of Ortho-K patients. Other guests featured in the Euclid-sponsored episodes of The Myopia Podcast include Elise Kramer, OD, Stephanie Woo, OD, Eef van der Worp, and Maria Lie, OD. Doctors Kramer and Woo are well-known for their expertise in building specialty contact lens practices; and Dr. van der Worp is an internationally recognized authority on scleral contact lenses.
As part of its ongoing educational initiatives for eye care providers, Euclid is also partnering with Dr. Kading on a related webinar. “The Back to School Special: Implementing Myopia Management into your Practice” webinar will be held on August 31, 2021, at 8:30 pm ET, and aims to provide attendees with insight into early myopia diagnosis, treatment options, and opportunities to successfully implement myopia management into practice. Dr. Kading is a widely published author and the owner of several Seattle-area optometry practices where some of his specialties include myopia management and specialty contact lenses.
